Combined $250,000 from tech company increases program access for Northern Nevada-based JOIN Inc. and ACE High School.
Northern Nevada-based workforce development organizations—JOIN Inc. Training Nevadans for Careers and ACE High School—are expanding their programming and increasing access to their career development offerings thanks to a combined $250,000 donation from Google.
“We’ve seen monumental shifts in job markets over the past year, making organizations like JOIN and ACE imperative to the economic success of the Silver State” said Kate Franko, Google’s Regional Head of Data Center Public Affairs. “This allows those looking to transition to a different career or those just starting their professional journey to get trained in high-paying skills. I cannot wait to see these programs grow and flourish.”
JOIN will use funds to support the expansion of knowledge access and training, specifically within the construction industry, throughout the 13 counties of Northern Nevada. They are expecting increased completion rates for their bootcamps, workshops and work-based learning opportunities, particularly by those in underserved, rural communities, in order to grow and sustain the construction industry throughout the region.
“Nevada is a booming state in need of more builders and construction workers,” said Denise Castle, CEO of JOIN Inc. “Google’s generous donation ensures the next generation of construction workers here in Nevada will have the proper skills, training and guidance.”
Google’s donation to ACE High School will cover training costs and tuition assistance for CTE training at Truckee Meadows Community College, as well as provide transportation support between the two facilities. This will increase capacity and the number of students that can be reached by ACE.
“We’re hoping to increase our graduation class size by 50% in the next five years,” said Bob DeRuse, Director of ACE High School. “Google’s donation is a huge step in the right direction to bring this goal to fruition.”
