Members of the public are invited to join us for International Observe the Moon Night on Saturday, October 1 beginning at 3:30 p.m. The free event will be held at The Dale Etheridge Planetarium on the College of Southern Nevada’s North Las Vegas Campus.
International Observe the Moon Night is a worldwide public event that encourages observation, appreciation and understanding of the Moon and its connection to space science, exploration, and human culture. This annual event connects scientists, educators and lunar enthusiasts from around the world.
The event at The Dale Etheridge Planetarium at CSN will be held from 3:30 – 10 p.m. and will include four free lunar-themed planetarium shows, STEM activities and educational resources for children and families featuring The Moon Adventure Game, telescope observations with the Las Vegas Astronomical Society, and NASA TV in the lobby with special coverage of International Observe the Moon Night.
The Las Vegas Astronomical Society will be outside the planetarium after sundown with telescopes, providing a guided tour of the Moon, planets and other celestial objects for visitors.
International Observe the Moon Night is sponsored by NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) mission and the Solar System Exploration Division at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, with many contributors. LRO is managed by NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, for the Science Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
