LAS VEGAS – February is National Children’s Dental Health Month and the theme for 2022 is “Sealants Make Sense.” This national health observance brings together thousands of dedicated professionals, health care providers and educators to promote the benefits of good oral health to children, their caregivers, teachers and many others.
To celebrate Children’s Dental Health Month in Southern Nevada, retired NHL player Deryk Engelland and Vegas Golden Knights (VGK) team mascot Chance will make an appearance at Hollingsworth STEAM Academy, Feb. 22 at 8 a.m. Deryk and Chance will be distributing Smile Bags to students at Hollingsworth STEAM Academy. The Smile Bag includes a toothbrush, toothpaste and dental floss.
Hollingsworth STEAM Academy is one of over 50 schools that Future Smiles provides services through the Future Smiles Mobile School Sealant Program. Future Smiles has partnered with LIBERTY Dental of Nevada to provide Hollingsworth STEAM Academy with 1,000 Smile Bags for this event.
“Children’s Dental Health Month is about the hope and dream that all children can live a life filled with confidence, dignity, and health, embracing the joy of life’s most precious asset – a healthy, sparkling smile,” said Terri Chandler, founder and executive director of Future Smiles.

Future Smiles was founded in 2009 and has helped more than 170,000 children in the Clark County Schools District (CCSD). Future Smiles has provided more than 500,000 services to children, including brushing supplies, protective dental sealants, and fluoride varnish treatments.
Future Smiles operates the Mobile School Sealant Program that annually serves 50 Title I schools in Southern Nevada and all students are eligible to receive preventive services. There has been a dire need for services, and in the last two years, 70 percent of the children Future Smiles has seen have untreated decay- the national average is 50 percent.
