RENO, NEV.— The full-service brew pub coming to the Reno Public Market Food Hall—FiftyFifty Brewing Co.—has hired Dana Fleming as the location’s new head brewer.
“This will be another FiftyFifty, but we didn’t want it to be a clone of what already exists,” said Dana Fleming, head brewer of Fifty FiftyBrewing Co. at Reno Public Market. “We will still be pouring our core brands, but we wanted Reno Public Market’s FiftyFifty to be almost an independent entity where we can try some incredible new flavors for Reno patrons.”
Fleming will be in charge of brewery management and drink curation and selection, as well as
her normal brewing responsibilities of concocting new drafts and ales for the location.
“We cannot wait to see what Dana and the FiftyFifty team bring to the food hall once we open the doors,” said Doug Wiele, president and founding partner of Reno Public Market developers Foothill Partners Inc.. “The atmosphere and flavors FiftyFifty are bringing to the food hall are exactly why we chose them as one of our anchoring establishments, and Dana’s expertise will be integral to their success at Reno Public Market.”
Fleming is prioritizing farm-to-table processes for FiftyFifty’s new location by incorporating base brewing ingredients like local malts, as well as utilizing “adjuncts” like fruits and berries from Nevada farmers in certain brews. Farm-to-table is also a priority concerning the brew pub’s food offerings, with local ingredients being used where possible for the rest of their menu.
“It takes a lot of dedication to switch to small producers for such a primary ingredient, but we want to prioritize Nevada ingredients for our Nevada location,” said Fleming. “And the possibilities are endless for Nevada adjuncts. There’s plums and pomegranates and all kinds of berries.”
Fleming has six years of experience in the brewing industry, working at companies like LA-based Brouwerij West and Maui Brewing Company in Hawaii.
FiftyFifty Brewing Co. will take up 6,500 sq. ft. of the Reno Public Market Food Hall and will be a full-service brew pub alongside another full-service restaurant and approximately 20 local food vendors. Beyond normal brewing facilities, FiftyFifty is also bringing wooden vessels called “foeders” to brew wooded beers similar to their award-winning Eclipse Line, a collection of bourbon barrel aged stouts.
The Reno Public Market Food Hall is expected to officially open in July 2022. For more information on Reno Public Market, visit renopublicmarket.com.
