The College of Southern Nevada and the CSN Foundation are pleased to announce that nearly $600,000 has been raised to provide scholarships to CSN students.
Collaborative partnerships with donors from throughout the Southern Nevada community enable the Foundation to work toward its mission of graduating CSN students debt free.
“Philanthropic support from individuals, corporate donors and community partners to the CSN Foundation is critical to the success of our students — especially now as the effects of the COVID-19 on our economy impact our students’ lives,” said CSN President Dr. Federico Zaragoza. “I am grateful for each and every donation. On behalf of our students, I want to thank the community for its ongoing support of the CSN Foundation and the CSN mission to empower our students and communities to achieve, succeed, and prosper.”
“The Public Education Foundation is proud to award an array of scholarships to well-deserving students in Southern Nevada who have overcome obstacles like the recent pandemic and are forging ahead in pursuit of their post-secondary education goals,” said Kirsten Searer, President of The Public Education Foundation. “Working with our donors and community partners like CSN, we are able to help develop home-grown talent, enable students to graduate with less debt, and invest in future community leaders.”
More than $250,000 in scholarship funds is being distributed to CSN students for fall 2020. These are made possible through generous donations to the CSN Foundation from CSN faculty, staff, community members, corporations and in partnership with community organizations. Examples of scholarship funds made available to CSN students include:
· The Hites Family/MGM Scholarship fund — funds $40,000 in scholarships for five CSN graduates to pursue their BA or BS at another NSHE institution.
· The Outstanding Student Award Scholarship — funded by Key Charitable Trust and the CSN Foundation and provides $1,000 scholarships to 17 CSN students nominated by their departments.
· CSN High School Scholarships — More than $70,000 in scholarships were given to CSN High School students pursuing their associate degree while in high school. Seventy students will graduate with their CSN associate degree in 2021 and 2022 debt free. The scholarships are made possible through donations from MGM Resorts, the MGM Foundation, Las Vegas Hospitality Association, Tyrone Thompson Scholarship Fund, and Mondays Dark.
· Jumpstart Scholarships — $13,500 from AT&T provides scholarships for CCSD students to take college classes in their high schools. More than 150 students will benefit from their generosity.
CSN Foundation is proud to partner with our donors because philanthropy is one way we lift our students and community. To learn more about the CSN Foundation or to donate, visit www.csnfoundation.org.
Since 1995, The Public Education Foundation has worked with individual donors and organizations, like CSN, to award more than $18 million in scholarships to more than 6,400 students. Each year, approximately 350 scholarships are available, some that award to multiple students, and opportunities are open for everyone. The Public Education Foundation’s scholarship program was created to increase post-secondary completion in Nevada, both to improve the lives of college-bound students and to create an educated workforce to drive our economy.
