June 28, 2019 – Project Marilyn, a non-profit organization in Southern Nevada, provides monthly feminine hygiene products to homeless women and teens in need, launches in Las Vegas. The charity was founded by ‘Aunt Flow’s Fairy Godmothers,’ Wendi Schweigart, whose foundation was in tribute to her Mother and co-founder, Nikki Blake Ferraro.
In the week of the initial kick off, Project Marilyn partnered with both non-profits, Project 150 and Safe Nest, and donated 100 themed bags containing, 1,500 tampons, 500 maxi pads and 500 hygiene wipes. This continued relationship will help serve their female population.
“This project is named after and dedicated to my mom, Marilyn, who passed from cancer in 2011. She was an amazing woman who never realized her own power. She hustled and sacrificed before women were praised for doing so. I miss her terribly and work each day in hopes of honoring her strength, says daughter and Project Marilyn co-founder, Wendi Schweigart.
Additionally, Project Marilyn “popped-up” with The Just One Project, Pop Up and Give, Mobile Food Pantry at Wooley Elementary School and gifted 80+ bags for families and young adults.
“Project Marilyn was born from the idea that no one should have to sacrifice their self-respect monthly just because they cannot afford these very basic and necessary items,” says co-founder Nikki Blake Ferraro. “Clean feminine hygiene products should always be accessible to girls and women in need and until then, we are here to help.”
Richard Harris Law Firm, generously donated $500 and also set up an assembly team of volunteers to assemble more than 200 bags that would help serve the community in need of the products.
On Friday, June 20, Ferraro’s Italian Restaurant & Wine Bar also hosted a celebration debuting Project Marilyn to family and friends, sharing its mission, and educating the need. Several donated feminine hygiene products were collected, including monetary gifts by NDL Group Inc., Tary Insurance, and Veterans Village.
