Ryan Calahan, principal at FEA Consulting Engineers, has been named the president of the Southern Nevada Chapter of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). Calahan will lead the chapter for the 2022-2023 term.
“It’s been a great pleasure to be part of this organization. I look forward to leading our Southern Nevada chapter in our continued efforts to improve lives with sustainable technology,” Calahan said.
Founded more than 100 years ago, ASHRAE is an international society that works to advance human well-being through the implementation and creation of sustainable technology in the built environment. ASHRAE members are focused on building systems, conducting research programs, developing energy efficient technology and improving indoor air quality, refrigeration and sustainability.
Calahan has been a member of the Southern Nevada Chapter for 16 years and has served on the organization’s board of governors for five years. He has helped lead the chapter’s work in Nevada and beyond, including a global effort to “light up the world,” in which he helped in ASHRAE’s humanitarian mission in Guatemala to integrate solar home kits in rural homes. Calahan and other ASHRAE members personally installed exterior and interior lighting and ventilation systems powered by solar energy in homes that don’t have access to electricity.
“It’s easy to forget how important sustainable technology can be for some areas of the world, especially for those who live by candlelight or don’t have access to systems of energy,” Calahan said. “ASHRAE members have worked diligently to address some of these issues and have helped elevate the quality of life for those in need.”
Calahan heads the mechanical and plumbing engineering departments at FEA Consulting Engineers. A leader in the industry, he was named among the country’s top building, design and construction professionals under 40 years old in the renowned Building Design+Construction “40 Under 40.”
Along with his position at ASHRAE, Calahan has also been a guest member of the Nevada State Board of Engineers and has represented the firm with Get Outdoors Nevada in its mission to clean up local trails and parks. He has also served as a mentor for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada’s Boys Night Out and worked with Habitat for Humanity to help build a new home for a local single mother.
