RENO, Nev. – The Nevada Women’s Fund (NWF) is pleased to announce that it has received $100,000 from SilverSummit HealthPlan to support its scholarship program. These funds have allowed Nevada Women’s Fund to award six local women scholarships ranging from $9,000 to $14,000.
“The NWF’s scholarship program supports the workforce development of our local business partners,” noted Ila Achtabowski, President & CEO of Nevada Women’s Fund. “This exciting partnership with SilverSummit HealthPlan helps us achieve our mission of ensuring a strong, well-educated female workforce in Northern Nevada.”
The six scholarship recipients are members of SilverSummit HealthPlan, which offers quality healthcare for Nevada Medicaid and Nevada Check Up members.
“SilverSummit understands there are many factors that influence one’s overall health and ability to thrive, one of which is education,” said Eric Schmacker, CEO, SilverSummit Healthplan. “We are proud to partner with the Nevada Women’s Fund and appreciate them connecting our members to these SilverSummit scholarship funds. We appreciate our partnership.”
Since its inception in 1982, the NWF has distributed more than $8.9 million in scholarships and grants to empower achievement in women and families in northern Nevada. Though the dollar amount is significant, the impact of educating women goes beyond a measurable scope.
“I cannot express my gratitude to the Nevada Women’s Fund and SilverSummit Health Plan, nor can I express how this will change my life as a full-time student, or as a woman who continues to rise above,” said 2022 scholarship recipient Jamie Wakefield. “Thank you from the bottom of my heart. This will change my future forever and help me continue my journey to better myself.”
For the 2022-2023 academic year, Nevada Women’s Fund awarded scholarships totaling more than $289,000. Individual scholarships range from $2,022 to $14,000 and assist local women pursuing higher education in a variety of fields including nursing, medicine, criminal justice, business, science and education. Local recipients represent diverse backgrounds, ethnicities and ages, ranging from 18 to 55.
The scholarship and grant awards support NWF’s mission of inspiring achievement in women and families to reach their full potential. To learn more about the Nevada Women’s Fund, visit nevadawomensfund.org or call (775) 786-2335.
