20 recent graduates from the Jobs for Nevada’s Graduates (J4NG) program and other CCSD workforce readiness programs have accepted apprenticeships with Tesla’s Manufacturing Development Program (MDP). Students signed a conditional offer in a signing ceremony last Tuesday, organized by Tesla.
“I am so happy that I am able to be a part of something special and so excited to see where this opportunity takes me,” said recent CCSD graduate, Eddie, from Valley High School.
CCSD students from participating organizations such as J4NG, Career and Technical Education (CTE) and robotics programs, have received conditional offers with Tesla and are set to begin the apprenticeship this August at the Gigafactory, located in Reno. Youth have the unique opportunity to start a career with Tesla while receiving an industry recognized certification in automation and robotics from Truckee Meadow Community College (TMCC).
“J4NG has partnered with Tesla since 2017, making this the sixth cohort of J4NG students to go through the Manufacturing Development Program, and since then, we’ve seen dozens of former students move into highly skilled and full-time careers as a result of the apprenticeship,” said Dr. Rene Cantu, Executive Director of J4NG. “This program is a pathway for students to get a college degree while earning valuable work experience, and the potential to enter a career upon completion.”
Not only does J4NG help connect students to the MDP through this partnership with Tesla, they also assist students throughout the relocation process including with funding to cover first month’s rent, deposits, clothing needs, textbooks and other necessities.
