They emphasize the importance of attorneys providing pro bono legal services to those unable to pay
LAS VEGAS, NV – Southern Nevada Senior Law Program, which provides no-cost, quality legal services to vulnerable seniors aged 60 years and older in Southern Nevada, has been recognized by the Justices of the Supreme Court of the State of Nevada on its tenth anniversary as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and extend their support for SNSLP in recruiting pro bono commitments and in achieving financial support in lieu of pro bono services.
“We are extremely proud of this honor and are eager to gather more support from our community of Southern Nevada attorneys to continue moving our mission forward in order to make the largest positive impact on our vulnerable senior community possible,” expresses Diane Fearon, the Executive Director of the Southern Nevada Senior Law Program (SNSLP).
In its recognition, the Justices noted the following:
As Southern Nevada Senior Law Program grows and expands services, part of extending services to seniors in need should include support from lawyers volunteering their time on a pro bono basis. Part of this pro bono expansion will create a need for support from probate and estate planning attorneys. Basic estate planning is the most requested legal service by older adults with the greatest need.
Let it be known that the Nevada Supreme Court supports these efforts and recognizes the importance of attorneys fulfilling their Rule 6.1 professional responsibility to provide volunteer pro bono legal services to those unable to pay.
Be it also known that funding for Nevada legal aid providers has a positive return on investment (ROI). For every dollar spent on legal aid, seven dollars are returned to the Nevada economy. The single largest source of ROI in Nevada is savings from advance directives, saving $18 million.
Southern Nevada Senior Law Program plays a significant role in protecting at-risk seniors.
The Supreme Court of Nevada congratulates Southern Nevada Senior Law Program on its tenth anniversary as a stand-alone nonprofit organization and encourages probate and estate attorneys to support the program by volunteering pro bono or supporting with a donation in lieu of pro bono.
SNSLP was founded in 1978 as a division of the City of Las Vegas City Attorney’s office and successfully transitioned in 2012 to a self-sustaining nonprofit organization.
Diane humbly expresses, “It is truly an honor to lead SNSLP, and I look forward to working with every single one of the attorneys offering to donate their pro bono time to our organization. The Justices have asked me to report back on our efforts in recruiting pro bono commitments and in achieving financial support in lieu of pro bono, and I am whole-heartedly invested in bringing them great news on behalf of SNSLP.”
