LAS VEGAS – Youth tennis in Southern Nevada is about to get more competitive with the opening of Faith Lutheran Middle School & High School’s new $3.4 million, 3.48-acre Peccole Shuirman Tennis Complex. A ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony, Dec. 21, at 2015 S. Hualapai Way, will mark the progress.
The complex, rising south and west of the new Crusader Business Center, on the corner of Hualapai Way and Homestretch Drive, will serve as Faith Lutheran’s longtime home courts.
This month’s ribbon cutting follows a championship year for Faith Lutheran’s varsity tennis teams, which include 45 players – 25 girls and 20 boys — and compete in the 5A division, which involves Nevada’s largest schools. Faith Lutheran’s boys singles and doubles teams won 2021 Division 5 A state championships; Faith Lutheran had never before won a boys singles state title. Faith Lutheran’s girls varsity teams were runners up for 2021 Division 5 A state championships.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal named Faith Lutheran boys team coach Jeff Foley Nevada Preps 2021 All-Southern Nevada Coach of the Year.
“This complex will allow our student-athletes to play the best competition in Nevada and beyond and bolster their chances to develop college-level talent,” said Jeff Foley, head coach of Faith’s tennis program. “Our goal is to develop as many Division I and college-scholarship-level players as we can while having fun and representing our school.”
Faith Lutheran’s new 10-court Peccole Shuirman complex, features post-tension concrete construction and will have four lighted courts. Naming rights sponsorships and Faith’s general fund are financing the project.
Site preparation began with the removal of 20,200 cubic yards of milled caliche, a sedimentary rock. Caliche contains calcium carbonate that binds other material, such as gravel, sand, clay, and silt.
In all, 92,300 square feet of concrete will cover the 10 courts, which are surrounded by 2,000 linear feet of 10-feet-high chain-link fencing. Also, 39,300 square feet of asphalt will create parking spaces for 103 cars; five spaces will serve handicapped drivers.
The complex features tropical and desert landscaping, including 70 trees, 600-plus shrubs and more than 300 tons of decorative rock mulch.
The complex design was expanded from its original eight courts to better accommodate tournaments, club play and summer camps.
The complex will also have women’s, men’s and family restrooms; a 285-square-foot coach’s office and 432 square feet of storage for ball hoppers, nets and equipment.
DC Building Group built the complex. A lead naming gift from Bob and Nancy Peccole, their son Rob and their daughter and son-in-law, Becca (Peccole) and Will Shuirman, provided initial funding.
