Pinecrest Academy Awarded National Education Award
The Pinecrest Academy of Inspirada has been awarded the National Blue Ribbon Education Award from the U.S. Department of Education. The award is given to schools throughout the country for the highest performing schools, measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests. Pinecrest is the first charter school in the state to receive the recognition.
Nevada Research Seeks to Increase Crop Drought Tolerance
The University of Nevada, Reno has been awarded a $1.55 million grant from the National Science Foundation to conduct research on improving drought tolerance and water-use efficiency of plants. The study seeks to preserve agricultural productivity in the face of rising temperatures and prolonged droughts and is being conducted through the university’s College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources.
Southern Nevada Housing Shows Signs of Stabilizing
According to a report by Las Vegas Realtors (LVR), the median price of existing single-family homes sold in southern Nevada during September was $406,500, a new record from the previous record set in July. September marked the eighth straight month when there were more homes available without offers than in the previous month. Prices for homes are up 20.5 percent from one year ago but are going up more gradually than in previous months.
LP Insurance Services Receives “Best Practices” Designation
A state-wide risk management and insurance brokerage firm, LP Insurance has been named a “Best Practices Agency” for the organization’s participation in the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America Best Practices Study Group. The designation is retained for a three-year cycle and requires participating companies to submit extensive financial and operational data for review each year.
