A community management company created during the COVID-19 pandemic is making a difference in the lives of disadvantaged youth in Las Vegas. Apogee Community Management recently launched its “Thanks and Giving” clothing drive, in partnership with nonprofit Communities in Schools, to support students at Ruben P. Diaz Elementary School in Las Vegas.
The Apogee team is looking for donations of warm clothing (hats, scarves, socks, gloves, jackets) for students at the school. Employees of the business were motivated to help the school after hearing of many students in need of many basic daily necessities, said Samantha Michaels, executive director of Apogee Management Corp.
“We were looking for a cause to support this holiday season and had heard this school really needed help. I’m so proud of our team. They didn’t hesitate. We’ve started with donations from within and we’re now reaching out to our vendors and other businesses in the community,” Michaels said.
The team has been collecting warm clothes since November 1 and will continue to do so through Nov. 30. It has a drop box at its office, 4775 West Teco Avenue, Ste. 130, in Las Vegas. Items can be dropped off during business hours.
Apogee team members are also willing to help its vendors and other valley businesses by bringing its drop boxes to their offices and places of work. After the clothing drive is complete, Apogee employees will deliver all of the clothing to students at the school in the first week of December.
The drive follows up the company’s support of a “Supply Our Students” back-to-school drive in August. Only a few months in business at the time, the team donated more than $500 in school supplies for Valley youth.
With the “Thanks and Giving” campaign, Apogee employees also purged their own closets to help adults in the community.
“This is the holiday season and we try to emphasize the importance of being grateful. We’re lucky to have the basic necessities in life, and we know these small gestures can potentially make a huge difference in the lives of someone else,” Michaels added.
