(Reno, Nev) – Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada’s 2nd Annual Raise the Roof to Ease Poverty is scheduled for Saturday, October 9. Beginning at sunrise, KBUL on-air personality and Catholic Charities supporter, JJ Christy will perch himself atop the Catholic Charities building located on Valley Road and East Fourth Street braving the elements until the organization raises $150,000. In addition, Catholic Charities will host an outdoor BBQ, tours of its programs and invites the community to cheer for JJ.
“In 2020, we saw a nearly 50% increase in need across our community and this year has been no different,” said Marie Baxter, CEO of Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada. “For more than 70 years, Catholic Charities has been the safety net for individuals and families. As the pandemic continues to affect their ability to put food on the table and simply meet their basic needs, we are addressing the root causes of poverty by accompanying those living in poverty on a journey to economic equality and the realization of a meaningful and purposeful life.”
The donations received will fund Catholic Charities’ critical mission to support those in need in the Reno/Sparks community as well as across rural Nevada. On average, more than 20,000 individuals receive support from the organization every month. Efforts are focused on food services, intervention and support services to help individuals and families move toward self-sufficiency.
The public can participate by tuning into KBUL at 98.1 FM and cheering on JJ or donating by visiting the website at https://ccsnn.org/pages/ways-to-donate.
Tickets for the BBQ are $20 for an adult and $10 for children under the age of 12. To donate, purchase a BBQ ticket or sponsor the event, visit ccsnn.org/pages/raise-the-roof-to-ease-poverty, or ccsnn.org/pages/ways-to-donate.
