The Nevada Alliance for Student Diversity (NASD) is offering school support, advocacy and support groups for families guiding gender-diverse children through their unique journeys to become their authentic selves.
The 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization says it has the only comprehensive, wrap-around program in Southern Nevada for gender-diverse children, focused on:
• Gender Diverse Student Advocacy, working directly with the local school district and charters to ensure gender-diverse students transitioning in school are treated with respect and that the school complies with local and state laws.
• Gender Diverse Patient Advocacy, providing information on medical options, referrals to trusted local providers and patient advocacy, with its Adolescent Transgender Healthcare Committee working to increase options and access to competent and safe care.
• School Support Services, providing professional development and policy development, as well as gender diversity training to schools for administrators, teachers and support staff to educate them on terminology, the law and best practices.
• Gender Diverse Youth and Parent Support Groups, offering weekly in-person and online therapeutic support groups, including a group for gender-diverse youth and a separate group for parents and family members.
Founded and led by parents, NASD also offers parent mentoring, social events, medical and mental health referrals and advocacy.
The group’s programs include services supporting caregivers and families of neurodiverse children, including those with ADD & ADHD, and celebrating diversity, providing advocacy and support to families facing challenges at home or school based on racial bias, stereotypes or prejudice.
