LAS VEGAS – ProCare Hospice of Nevada and CareOusel Pediatrics are proud to announce the opening of Southern Nevada’s newest hospice inpatient unit (IPU).
The 14-bed facility will begin accepting adult patients in September and incorporate pediatric hospice patients before year’s end. At that time, the ProCare Hospice IPU will be Nevada’s only hospice IPU staffed with pediatric hospice and palliative care expert providers.
On Friday, August 27, 2021, the public is invited to virtually tour the new facility and gain a greater understanding of the programs, services, and benefits of the ProCare Hospice IPU by going to the ProCare Hospice of Nevada YouTube Channel.
“As a premier hospice provider in Southern Nevada, we truly understand the community’s need for a new hospice inpatient unit (IPU) which is why this project has been a priority for us,” said Clevis Parker, MD, CEO, and CMO of ProCare Hospice. “Our IPU will be an essential resource for patients who require aggressive, short-term pain and symptom management, and for those transitioning from the hospital to their home, but require a transition step to stabilize their uncontrolled medical needs.”
ProCare Hospice and CareOusel Pediatrics are unlike many other hospice entities in Southern Nevada. The organization is family owned and operated since 2012. ProCare Hospice and CareOusel Pediatrics operate on a physician-led hospice model, with Clevis Parker, MD, serving as both Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chief Medical Officer (CMO).
Additionally, ProCare Hospice employs multiple board-certified hospice physicians and has the region’s most extensive pediatric hospice service program. The pediatric hospice team is led by Kathleen Gates, MD, the only pediatric hospice trained physician in Nevada. Additionally, ProCare Hospice employs a Child Life Specialist trained to provide developmentally and psychologically appropriate interventions to reduce fear, anxiety, and pain, and to help patients and their families deal with hospice or end-of-life issues.
The IPU is also a valuable respite for patients whose caregivers may be family members who require time away.
