HENDERSON, NV – Goodwill of Southern Nevada (Goodwill®) along with the Henderson Fire Department (HFD) and Henderson Police Department (HPD) successfully completed a first of its kind “Christmas in July” Event at Goodwill. Children from Boys & Girls Club of Southern Nevada and FEAT: Families for Effective Autism Treatment non-profit organizations were exclusively invited to partner with a Henderson first responder to experience a mid-year holiday themed shopping experience.
“This past year has been difficult for our community as we continue to navigate these tricky times, said Rick Neal, CEO of Goodwill of Southern Nevada. “As record unemployment rates swept across the region last year, Goodwill was able to see first-hand the impacts that loss of income can have on a person and family. All of us here at Goodwill hope this event made up for any joy lost this past holiday season with the kids, while at the same time honoring our local first responders who continue to help keep our community safe every day.”
Festivities began at 8:30am on Friday, July 30, 2021, at Goodwill’s Stephanie location at 1390 American Pacific Dr. 30 children, ages 3-17, arrived at Goodwill with a welcome by first responders, a fire truck and snow. Children were then partnered with a first responder, received a shopping bag and left to their own desires as they filled their bags full of clothes, toys and more. More than thirty children participated between the two non-profits with 25 personnel from Henderson Fire Department and Henderson Police Department.
