The 13th Annual Bowl-A-Thon to reduce childhood hunger in Southern Nevada will be held Sunday, July 25. Proceeds will benefit Serving Our Kids Foundation, which feeds and serves the weekend nutrition needs of several thousand homeless and at-risk children enrolled in the Clark County School District. There is a waiting list for the nonprofit organization’s weekend food bags.
The Weekend Meal Bag project is SOK’s core program. The program is on-going, throughout the school year, providing weekly bags of food to at-risk and homeless schoolchildren in elementary and middle schools throughout the Las Vegas Valley. The program’s target audience are food-insecure schoolchildren in grades K-8th. The schoolchildren are referred to SOK directly through the schools which they attend.
Prior to the pandemic, SOK served over 3500 children in 70 schools by delivering weekend meals directly to the schools every Friday. During the pandemic, SOK’s numbers soared dramatically to over 4600 children from 185 local schools each and every week.
“The Serving Our Kids Bowl-A-Thon is a fun way for families, friends and co-workers to help kids who fall through the traditional social services safety net from going hungry. It is our promise to support food insecure children and their families – newly unemployed households struggling to provide food for their children.” said Patricia Farley, chair of the Serving Our Kids board. “It only costs us $5.00 to feed a child on Saturday and Sunday. We can feed so many more kids with the community’s help and have a variety of ways for everyone to get involved, including team challenges, raffle prizes, sponsorships, and family, group, school and business teams.”
The Bowl-A-Thon will be held at the Sam’s Town Bowling Center, 5111 Boulder Highway. Registration begins at Noon with bowling from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m and will help to raise money for the at-risk and homeless children of the Vegas Valley!
Lane sponsorships are available for a $350 donation. Each one covers five bowlers for three games, shoe rental, lunch and beverage, and also receives a sponsor table, lane signage, logo on event banner, and inclusion in marketing efforts.
The cost for a single bowler is $25; three bowlers, $70; Family 4 Pack, $90; and a team of five bowlers, $100. This pricing also includes three games, shoe rental, lunch and beverage. There will be more than 30 Prizes and a 50/50 Raffle, including Deryk Engelland Autographed Memorabilia).

About Serving Our Kids Foundation
Serving our Kids Foundation is dedicated to feeding and serving the needs of Clark County children. While there are governmental programs and other organizations that provide children in need with breakfast and lunch on weekdays during school, weekends can be an issue. Since 2012, Serving Our Kids has stepped in to fill the weekend nutrition gap of vulnerable kids and now assists 3,500 children, grades K-8, in 70 schools who would otherwise go hungry. Referrals for weekend food bags are up 27 percent over last year, but the actual number of kids needing weekend nutrition assistance is estimated between 8,000 to 10,000. The nonprofit organization mobilizes the strength of community volunteers and donations. In addition to non-perishable food items, personal care items also are collected.
