The Nevada Women’s Fund (NWF) is pleased to announce that $218,330 in scholarships have been awarded to 80 northern Nevada women for the 2021/2022 school year.
Individual scholarships range from $1,500 to $5,000 and assist local women pursuing higher education in a variety of fields including nursing, medicine, criminal justice, business, science and education.
Local recipients represent diverse backgrounds, ethnicities and ages, ranging from 18 to 65. They include re-entry women, non-traditional students or single mothers who have not had the opportunity to complete their education due to domestic or financial constraints.
Though the dollar amount is significant, the impact of educating women goes beyond a measurable scope.
“Young families often have to sacrifice so much to allow a parent to go back to school, and that sacrifice often continues after graduation with student loan debt repayment,” shared Lauren Carlson, NWF scholarship recipient. “I am so grateful for the Nevada Women’s Fund who helps bridge that financial gap to support mothers pursuing their education. When you lift a mother from poverty, and support her education, there is a ripple effect felt for generations.”
The scholarship and grant awards support NWF’S mission of inspiring achievement in women and families to reach their full potential. To learn more about the Nevada Women’s Fund, visit nevadawomensfund.org or call (775) 786-2335.
