TSK Architects is proud to announce the reconstruction of O’Brien Middle School. This project will be an onsite replacement of the existing middle school which was originally constructed in 1974. The 178,000 sq.ft. school will be an innovative compact prototype design that is the first of its kind for the Washoe County School District. Targeted completion date for the new building is Summer 2022.
“It is an incredible honor to be the architecture firm of record for this inventive design for the Washoe County School District,” said Kevin Kemner, design principal of TSK Architects. “This type of design will be the first for our client and we are eager to set a new standard of sustainable practices and contemporary design for the Reno community. This project will provide a collaborative design environment that will benefit students and educators alike.”
The new building was designed to adhere to WCSD’s updated middle school education specifications of a 6 – 8 grade model. The current O’Brien does not have the capacity to house 6th graders, this new building will accommodate all three middle school grades in a three-story academic wing that houses each grade on its own floor.
The new campus is scheduled to welcome students for the Fall 2022 term. During that time, the existing building will be demolished and a new athletic field will be placed on the grounds. The project will reach its final completion in Summer 2023. TSK’s partners in this collaboration include: Resource Concepts Inc, Nelson-Wilcox, Ainsworth Associates, Dinter Engineering, Arup Acoustics, Design Workshop, and Changing Dynamics.
