Jason Robert Brown’s “Songs for a New World” to be performed outdoors at the BAC this June
“I directed Songs for a New World 15 years ago but today, it has a whole new meaning because it is a new world,” says Brewery Arts Center Executive Director Gina Lopez.
The musical Songs for a New World will make its Carson City debut and re-open live theater in Carson City on Friday, June 11 and will run through Saturday, June 12 and will be performed under the stars, outside at the Brewery Arts Center. This particular production was conceived a year ago with COVID safety in mind because it is a small cast and is comprised of two incredibly talented husband and wife teams Matt and Andie Wilkerson of Youth Theatre Carson City and Nick Aliberti and Sierra Scott of Wild Horse Stage Company and produced in collaboration with the Brewery Arts Center.
Songs for a New World is about one moment. It’s about hitting the wall and having to make a choice… or take a stand… or turn around and go back. Comprised solely of songs, these are the stories and characters of today, the Songs for a New World. The first musical from Tony Award winner, Jason Robert Brown (Parade, Bridges of Madison County), this moving collection of powerful songs examines life, love and the choices that we make.
Performer Sierra Scott says “One of the positive things to come out of the last year was that our local arts community really banded together. We collectively crafted a statement about the decision to postpone our live performances during the pandemic, and we supported each other with shared information about everything from safety measures to virtual programming. The arts have always been about bringing people together to share collective experiences. To continue in that spirit, I love that our first live theatre performance this summer will be a collaboration between three local arts organizations. If this year has taught us anything, it is that we are stronger together.”
“I am in awe of this amazingly creative and talented cast in a production that is truly worthy of the Broadway stage right here in Carson City. The performances will be magical and the perfect way to welcome back live theater and have a new appreciation for what we’ve missed during these 14 months,” says BAC’s Gina Lopez “this show will blow you away.”
Tickets are on sale now and proceeds will be split among Youth Theatre Carson City, Wild Horse Stage Company and Brewery Arts Center. Audience will be sectioned according to their reservation and the BAC will abide by all the COVID safety guidelines enforced during that time.
