Supporting Goodwill® on Earth Day benefits the environment and fosters economic growth
LAS VEGAS — Earth Day is the perfect time to reflect on how you can positively impact the environment and create a healthier planet. One way to do this is by donating and shopping at Goodwill of Southern Nevada (Goodwill®).
“By supporting Goodwill, you’re taking a stand against fast fashion and the negative effects of mass goods production,” said Rick Neal, president and CEO of Goodwill, “Today and every day, we encourage you to practice a sustainable lifestyle by donating and shopping at your local Goodwill store.”
Through donating and shopping second-hand at Goodwill, you’re taking a stand against fast fashion and practicing a sustainable lifestyle that helps the environment. Shopping at Goodwill gives items a second life and gives people a second chance by providing skills and job training as well as placement opportunities for those facing challenges to finding employment.
In addition to clothing, you can shop at Goodwill for items such as furniture, electronics, home décor, and more. Consumers can also shop for an even bigger variety of treasures online at shopgoodwill.com. Reuse keeps items out of landfills and helps slow mass production of new goods. Last year alone, with the generous support of our community, Goodwill diverted over 28.7 million pounds of goods from local landfills in Southern Nevada.
Supporting Goodwill also helps people in your community. Goodwill stores, in addition to offering employment, act as training platforms in support of our mission of employment training and workforce development. Additionally, a portion of the revenue generated in the stores is invested in the support of Mission Services, primarily provided through the Goodwill Career Centers. Last year, Goodwill provided career services to more than 3,800 job seekers and helped place over 1,200 people into employment. Supporting Goodwill this Earth Day is the ultimate social good act.
