Members of the Public Invited to Call in to Ask Questions, Make Vaccine Appointments
Está En Tus Manos (It’s In Your Hands), Telemundo Las Vegas, Southern Nevada Health District, Clark County, Immunize Nevada, the Nevada State Immunization Program and Walmart will host a COVID-19 vaccination telethon in Spanish on Thursday, April 29 from 5-7 p.m. The two-hour special aims to raise awareness and dispel concerns surrounding the COVID-19 vaccines, with the goal of increasing vaccination rates among the Hispanic/Latino communities.
Called “Vacunatón” (Vaccination Hotline), the special segment will feature public health professionals and community leaders. During the segment, anyone tuning in to Noticiero Telemundo Las Vegas will have the opportunity to call the State’s COVID hotline number, 800-401-0946 and speak to a bilingual (English/Spanish) representative to ask questions and receive immediate assistance with booking their COVID-19 vaccination appointment.
Dr. Fermin Leguen, district health officer at the Southern Nevada Health District, will be interviewed about the vaccine and what people need to know. Others to be featured include Peter Guzman, Latin Chamber of Commerce executive director, Julián Escutia Rodríguez, the consul of Mexico in Las Vegas, Dr. Carmen Ponce, Epidemiologist, Nevada Department of Health and Human Services and Julie Monroy, Pharmacy Technician, Walmart Store #4557.
The event is presented by Está En Tus Manos (EETM) and Walmart and produced by Telemundo Las Vegas in partnership with Southern Nevada Health District, Clark County, Immunize Nevada and the Nevada State Immunization Program.
The community also has access to the website and social channels (@estaentusmanosnevada), all in Spanish, where they can find up-to-date information on vaccines, testing and other community resources.
The telethon is part of a series of actions that EETM has taken to improve access to vaccinations and testing for Hispanics/Latinos. EETM, Walmart and Mi Familia Vota will host a Weekend of Action on Friday, April 30, from 3-5 p.m. and Saturday, May 1, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. More than two dozen volunteers, organized by Mi Familia Vota, will visit high-traffic locations in Las Vegas to invite community members to get vaccinated at a Walmart-sponsored pop-up clinic.
