Military students from seventeen countries tour southern Nevada nonprofit headquarters
LAS VEGAS – Goodwill of Southern Nevada (Goodwill®) hosted 20 officers from the United States Air Force’s Air War College, a professional military university that educates and prepares senior military officers, during their visit to Las Vegas. Goodwill was selected by the college because of its mission, substantial impact on the local community, and the programs offered to provide assistance to veterans and their families during their transition from military to civilian life.
“It was an honor to have our organization chosen by the Air War College to be included in their visit to Las Vegas,” said Rick Neal, president and CEO of Goodwill of Southern Nevada. “I am proud to showcase the work that our organization does to positively impact the local community. Across the country, Goodwill is a pillar of support to not only those looking for budget-friendly clothing and household items, but also to those looking for assistance in finding employment. It was our pleasure to host some of our nation’s future leaders and have the opportunity to highlight our contributions to southern Nevada.”
During the visit, Neal provided background information on the mission of the nonprofit organization, programs provided to offer a hand-up to job seekers, veteran-specific services, sustainability efforts, and impact statistics from last year. In 2020, Goodwill of Southern Nevada provided career services to 3,983 job seekers, placing 1,234 into employment, 56 of those being veterans. Following the presentation, the officers took part in a tour of a Goodwill warehouse to see the distribution and sustainability side of the organization’s operations.
“Each year, the U.S. Air Force invites partner nation officers to attend the Air War College with the goal of strengthening international relations. International Air War College students travel to two or three U.S. cities and visit governmental and private organizations to gain an appreciation of America’s political, military, and economic systems along with American culture,” said Colonel Scott Rizer with the Air War College. “Visiting Goodwill Industries exposes international students to the importance of nonprofits in American society and captures the value Americans place on giving their personal time and resources in support of important causes.”
