Mountain View Lutheran School, which offers a strong mix of traditional and mind-broadening lessons delivered in-person with adjusted class sizes, has enrollment openings for prospective students for the 2021-22 academic year.
Mountain View Lutheran, which welcomes students of all religious faiths for prekindergarten through fifth grade instruction, works to prepare students academically and socially. In an intimate, compassionate atmosphere, teachers and staff ensure students feel like family — safe, nurtured and included.
The school features co-curriculars including instruction in the visual and performing arts and computer/library for students in kindergarten through fifth grade and sign language instruction for third- to fifth-grade students.
During the coronavirus pandemic, the school took extra precautions to keep students healthy and safe. Most elementary classes were limited to 17 students; classroom populations were kept at 50% of fire code capacity to comply with state-mandated health guidelines. Larger classrooms allowed for physical distancing to accommodate larger second-grade, fifth-grade and kindergarten groups.
During the 2020-21 school year, the school conducted daily temperature and health checks and required nose-and-mouth-covering face masks for all students and employees. The school also offered touch-free hand sanitizer stations in common areas to promote and enable frequent handwashing. Cleaning staff scrubbed and sanitized desks and other high-touch surfaces daily.
Mountain View Lutheran School is doubly accredited through the Western Association of Schools & Colleges and National Lutheran Schools Accreditation. Preschool classes follow the Quality Rating and Improvement System, which assesses quality and works to better early and school-age care and education programs.
Core-subject teaching lets students learn widely and advance quickly. In math, for example, fifth-graders can enter accelerated learning in the second semester and regularly qualify for prealgebra for the sixth grade.
Social studies lessons start local and widen. Fourth-graders study Nevada history; fifth-graders focus on American history.
Mountain View Lutheran School also offers a full-time preschool for children ages 2 to 5. It has openings for children starting at age 2, and full-day and half-day preschool for children 3 and older.
