United Education Institute (UEI) Launches Las Vegas Campus with Key Programs: Medical Assistant, Medical Billing and Insurance Coding, Dental Assistant, Automotive Technician, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC)
Given the swift and powerful impact of COVID-19 on the job market in Las Vegas (over 100,000 Nevadans out of work) – particularly in the hard-hit hospitality, entertainment, and transportation sectors, it is critical that Las Vegans have the opportunity to pursue economically stable careers. Access to short-term, affordable career training programs is vital for displaced workers to learn a new skill or trade that will allow them to pursue a stable career. Recent research shows that a third of people who lost their jobs in the pandemic say they will need more education to get new ones. The pandemic has substantially increased interest in career training programs, demonstrated in another national poll that shows a quarter of American adults say they plan to enroll in an education or training program within the next six months.
In October, United Education Institute (UEI) opened a new campus in Las Vegas located at the Boulevard Mall (3450 S. Maryland Pkwy). UEI is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC) and offers a range of vocational and trade programs that help students begin a new career in as little as 10 months. UEI Las Vegas launched with key programs where job growth is predicted to be stable, including Medical Assistant, Medical Billing and Insurance Coding, Dental Assistant, Automotive Technician, and Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Technician.
“Despite the challenging pandemic and the resulting economic conditions, there are areas and industries that either remain in need of a skilled workforce or who have seen an increase in need including the health care sector,” said Jim York, IEC Vice President of Leadership and Campus President at UEI Las Vegas. “We continue to look forward to welcoming new students with much needed access to a variety of careers.”
Retrofitting the big-box retail space that was formerly Sears, the new UEI campus is approximately 35,000 square-feet and includes classrooms, training labs, computer labs and a student resource center. The first cohort of students started in Las Vegas in October with the next cohort set to begin on January 25, 2021 with modified in-person and virtual operations that include comprehensive COVID-19 prevention protocols.
UEI is student centric and works to make students feel like a part of a team with a common goal. Students also receive one-on-one training and attention. In as few as 10 months, students can learn the skills needed to start a career. UEI offers hands-on training from instructors who have a wealth of experience in the industries they teach. Some programs include an externship with local employers, and UEI offers career services and job placement resources.
“Las Vegans have historically proven their resiliency and resourcefulness time and time again. While the pandemic has certainly challenged the resolve of many, it has not broken the spirit, drive, or perseverance of its citizenry,” said York. “The people in Las Vegas are very special to us – and deserve to be supported by a campus team that has an absolute passion for helping others succeed and thrive.”
