LAS VEGAS – On Oct. 14, the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) Southern Nevada honored Henderson Councilwoman Michelle Romero with the Corporate & Government Service Award at its 2020 Women of Distinction Awards. This award is earned by a woman who has committed and demonstrated acts of advocating and advancing opportunities for women in the corporate and government arena.
Since 1998, the Women of Distinction Awards have honored women from all aspects of life for their work in improving southern Nevada’s business landscape. Councilwoman Romero has worked passionately to ensure that her industry provides the opportunity for positive collaboration and growth – where all are treated equally and given the opportunity to succeed.
Romero was elected at-large to the Henderson City Council in April 2019, representing Ward I.
Councilwoman Romero serves with the mayor and her fellow council members as the legislative branch of the Henderson community, responsible for setting policies and making decisions for many aspects of local government for Nevada’s second largest city.
Prior to her elected service, she worked for the City of Henderson for 25 years in several capacities, most recently as the Henderson Redevelopment Agency Manager from 2007 until 2016. As manager, Romero lead a team of professionals who indelibly changed the face of the Downtown Henderson/Water Street District, and other maturing areas of the City.
This year’s awards honored twelve women from a variety of industries in the 2020 categories. In order to be considered for a Women of Distinction Award, nominees must live and/or work in the southern Nevada region and champion the advancement of women.
