HENDERSON – Henderson International School announced it will begin a Leadership and Emotional Quotient Academy for its teaching staff designed to enhance the overall development of its students through soft skill development – attributes that help develop empathy and positive character traits.
Beginning January 24, select teachers will enter a five-month-long program that will enable them to connect one-on-one with students and recognize and nurture the emotional and personality traits that will ultimately help promote academic and personal success.
The academy is being organized and led by the school’s Leadership Team. Mr. Bob Rodrigo, who forms part of that team and serves as the school’s Director of Curriculum and Instruction, with more than 30-year experienced educator, has seen a drastic student achievement turnaround with the emotional quotient model.
“The most meaningful part of student success is the student-teacher relationship, and specifically the teacher’s ability to identify different social and emotional aspects of a child,” said Rodrigo. “The more equipped our teachers are in a singular goal to connect with students outside of the standard academic level, the more we help cultivate a culture of emotional awareness that students will subconsciously apply into relationships with their own families and communities.”
Because Henderson International School believes emotional quotient (EQ) is just as important as a person’s intelligence quotient (IQ), this year the school introduced report cards so that parent, as well as the student, can track their child’s emotional and social developments.
“2020 has been filled with conversations regarding the need for empathy,” Rodrigo continued. “By implementing a structured social and emotional-building curriculum that can be tracked for progress, we do our part to help ensure students become future leaders who understand and prioritize empathy and social responsibility in a diverse and dynamic world.”
Henderson International School implement the social and emotional quotient learning programs beginning with toddlers enrolled in the school’s early childhood program as well as it’s K-8 student population.
