{Board 101 Training well received, long-time HOA management leader will expand virtual educational services to help more HOA board members}
CAMCO (Complete Association Management Company, LLC) recently launched its online education program, Board 101 Training, to teach homeowner association board members about their roles and responsibilities within their associations.
For years, CAMCO held an annual tradeshow bringing together its preferred vendors and board members from CAMCO-managed HOAs. At the gathering, CAMCO also delivered an educational seminar for HOA board members. This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the tradeshow, titled “Purple Rain” in honor of the American Cancer Society’s “Power in Purple” fundraising efforts, was cancelled. Board 101 online training took the place of the tradeshow’s in person educational component.
“This is education that benefits board members and helps them understand their duties and roles. It’s especially helpful for someone newly elected who has not held a board position in the past,” said Mary Rendina, CAMCO’s marketing director. “We didn’t want to do a Zoom meeting because that’s one and done. We wanted to present something they could review on their own time and revisit the subject, if needed.”
With Board 101, CAMCO delivers four virtual education modules. They include:
· Roles and Responsibilities: presented by Cyndi Koester, CMCA®, AMS®, PCAM® Division Director, Portfolio
· Governance: presented by Mozell Williams, Vice President, Developer Association Services
· Financials: presented by Yvette Sauceda, Accounting Director
· Meetings, Maintenance and Committees: presented by Christine Greengrass, CMCA®, AMS®, PCAM® Vice President, Association Services
Attendees can choose to download course materials or have hard copies delivered to them by their community manager. After viewing the videos, they may email questions and have them personally answered by the video’s instructor.
“I actually prefer the online rather than the in person, as it is a far better use of time, eliminating the travel and [we] can navigate based on our individual pace,” said Barbara Holden, an HOA board member of a CAMCO-managed community in Nevada. Holden was also impressed with the speaker’s knowledge level in the Meetings, Maintenance and Committees video.
CAMCO used a professional videographer to create the presentations. With the first modules well received, the team is creating additional educational videos as well. The next module will cover how to properly fill out architectural review applications.
“It’s a common topic that we encounter. A lot of times, people submit applications and are denied because they haven’t filled them out properly,” Rendina added.
Proceeds from this year’s tradeshow vendor sponsors support the American Cancer Society. Since the tradeshow was cancelled, this year’s sponsors chose to have funds cover video production costs. Anything over the production amount was donated to the American Cancer Society.
