Yesterday, Equality Nevada hosted a Pack the Bag Book drive, filled with backpacks and food supply bags donated by Health Plan of Nevada and Spread the Word Nevada. More than 225 bags were distributed to students in need.
Informational booths and resources were also available by the following organizations: Discovery Children’s Museum, The Rape Crisis Center, Project 150, Vegas Women’s Fest, Spread The Word Nevada, Leaders in Training, UNLV School of Public Health, Nevada Minority Health and Equity Coalition, Mingo Health Solutions Behavioral Services, Inc., and The LGBTQ Center of Southern Nevada.
The nonprofit recognizes know that our youth are growing up not knowing the important people in history and it is their goal to have the educational curriculum changed in Nevada to include that. Equality Nevada is a non-profit charity and advocacy organization. They fight for civil rights, using all of our resources to secure full equality for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community and advocate achieving fair treatment and equal opportunity for all Nevadans regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity or expression.
The next Book-a-Bag Give-away, is August 15 at the new Henderson Equality Center, from 10a.m.-2 p.m. More than 225 bags will also be given out that day which includes non-profit resources, books for reading, tickets to Cowabunga Bay, SeaQuest and more.
Equality Nevada, which shares space at the New LGBTQ Center in Henderson, will also be co-hosting an event to promote National Coming Out Day and to have the Grand Opening that got postponed due to the current Covid-19 safety guidelines.
