Nonprofits Statewide Announce Support from NV Energy Foundation to Help Nevadans Impacted by COVID-19

Nine organizations across Nevada, including United Way of Southern Nevada, United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierras, Three Square Food Bank, the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada, Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada, Communities in Schools Nevada, United Labor Agency of Nevada (ULAN) and HELP of Southern Nevada jointly announced that the NV Energy Foundation is providing a $1,000,000 donation to support Nevadans physically or financially effected by COVID-19.

“Our community is experiencing unprecedented health and financial effects as a result of COVID-19,” said Doug Cannon, NV Energy President and Chief Executive Officer. “We want our customers, who are also our fellow Nevadans, to know that we are here for them. Not only can they count on us to maintain safe, reliable electric and gas service during this difficult time in their lives, our NV Energy Foundation is providing $1,000,000 to Nevada nonprofit organizations for expanded energy assistance, and to help meet the ongoing needs of our communities.”

The funding will help these organizations address the effects of COVID-19 on the community, including food insecurity, income replacement and gap funding.

“As a longtime partner of United Way, we are grateful for NV Energy as they step up during this time to bring needed funds into our local community through our Emergency Assistance and Crisis Fund,” said Michael Brazier, United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierras CEO and President.

“Times of uncertainty truly bring out the best in people and corporations who are committed to helping the most vulnerable.  NV Energy Foundation’s commitment to Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada will allow us to provide emergency financial assistance to members of our community who are turning to us for help and hope.” said Marie Baxter, CEO Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada. “Access to emergency funding of even $100 or $200 dollars can mean the difference between making your rent and not making your rent. People in need turn to Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada every day and, we are continuing to provide assistance. We couldn’t do the work we do without the support of partners like NV Energy and its Foundation.”

“This generous donation comes at a critical time, as we are having to rapidly innovate our model of support to our students and their families in an ever-changing environment – just as need for wraparound services will continue to skyrocket. We are grateful to count the NV Energy Foundation as a longtime supporter of our mission,” said Tami Hance-Lehr, CEO and State Director, Communities In Schools of Nevada. “And today, we are even more grateful for their unrestricted, emergency support. Allowing nonprofit agencies the flexibility they need to direct funds allows us to be nimble in our approach ensuring greater continuity of care for those who have come to rely on our services. Together we will ensure our students remain supported during this public health crisis.”

“We are so grateful for NV Energy and their commitment to health of our community,” said Nicole Lamboley, president and CEO of the Food Bank of Northern Nevada.  “They have been partners of ours for years and we are grateful for their support at this critical time.”

“The NV Energy Foundation has been a longstanding and dependable partner in the fight against hunger.  Now marks a critical time in that fight,” said Brian Burton, Three Square Food Bank President and CEO. “We are grateful to NV Energy for stepping forward to make a significant gift when our community is in need more than ever.”

“Thank you to the NV Energy Foundation for its support in keeping Nevada families stable during these tough times,” said Maggie Carlton, Executive Director for ULAN.
