Cox Communications has donated and installed two Cox Innovation Labs at the Southern Highlands Club of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada, located at 10900 Southern Highlands Pkwy., in Las Vegas.
The Teen Cox Innovation Lab and Youth Cox Innovation Lab include laptop and desktop computers, furniture, software, virtual reality headsets, podcast station, 3D printer, Wi-Fi and internet services provided by Cox Communications and valued at more than $27,000.
Cox Communications also updated its Cox Innovation Lab at the Desert Pines Boys & Girls Club, located at 3750 E. Bonanza Road, with new equipment including laptops, Wi-Fi, Nintendo Switch, gaming consoles, 3D printer and camera valued at more than $12,000.
“Cox Innovation Labs provide technology and support to help bridge the digital divide that exists for many young people in our community,” said Joe Peeples, director of field services for Cox Communications and Boys & Girls Club of Southern Nevada board member. “It is a resource for those who don’t have a computer or internet access at home while also helping to encourage interest in science, technology, engineering and math.”
Since 2013, the company has donated and installed Cox Innovation Labs at seven Boys & Girls Clubs in Southern Nevada with the goal of providing members with a greater chance of success in the digital world. Cox Communications and the James M. Cox Foundation have been philanthropic partners of Boys & Girls Clubs of America and local Clubs since 1977.
The company also offers low-cost, home internet with Wi-Fi through its Connect2Compete program. The cost is $9.95 per month for eligible families, including those with at least one school-age child enrolled in the National School Lunch Program. Within the Clark County School District, 65 percent of students meet this eligibility qualification criteria.
More than 10,000 youth are served annually through the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada whose mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
