LAS VEGAS – Nathan Adelson Hospice, Southern Nevada’s largest non-profit hospice, today announced that, Dr. Robert Reynders, Lead Palliative Care Physician for Veteran Affairs, Southern Nevada Healthcare System, will be the keynote speaker for “Respect | Care | Teamwork: Serving Our Veterans” at the 16th Annual Multicultural Conference and Luncheon on Feb. 20, 2020 at the Palace Station in Las Vegas. Registration is at 8am with the conference scheduled from 8:30 – 11:30 a.m., with 3.5 Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) being offered at this time. The luncheon will begin at 12:00 p.m.
Each year, Nathan Adelson Hospice provides this forum to unite and educate people from various cultures and faiths on end-of life care tailored to their needs, and this year the focus is on the needs of veterans. When it comes to end-of-life care for those who have bravely served our country, it is critical to respect the military’s cultural structure and values. As of 2015, there were approximately 20 million veterans living in the United States, with less than half receiving services through the Veterans Administration.
“Our annual Multicultural Conference educates the community about ways to positively impact the end-of-life journey for all populations, and this year, we are focused on those who have served our country,” said Karen Rubel, president and CEO of Nathan Adelson Hospice. “As part of the We Honor Veterans program, we feel a deep responsibility to make sure Southern Nevada’s veteran population has access to the care they need at their most vulnerable time of life.
This year, the morning panels will consist of Charles Ramey of Veterans Affairs, Wendy Simons and Fred Wagar from the Nevada Department of Veterans Services, Naomi Jones of Seven Hills Hospital, Nathan Adelson Hospice Social Worker Cheryl Johnston, Susan Mahon of Nuclear Care Partners, and Heather Osipowicz of Nevada Donor Network, with moderators Ross Bryant of UNLV’s Military and Veterans Services, and Nathan Adelson Hospice President and CEO, Karen Rubel.
At the Luncheon our Keynote Speaker, Dr. Reynders, DO, of the Veterans Affairs Southern Nevada Healthcare will present on the importance of understanding veterans’ unique dynamics at the end of life to better care for them.
