LAS VEGAS – Nevada State Bank, celebrating its 60th anniversary, has been a strong community supporter in Southern Nevada since about the time the University of Nevada, Las Vegas was established. Now the bank is continuing that tradition of community service by making a $250,000 donation to UNLV’s Lee Business School to support the planning and construction of a new business academic building.
“Nevada State Bank considers Lee Business School a key workforce development tool for our community and our state,” said Terry Shirey, Nevada State Bank president and CEO. “The bank has a long-term relationship with the school that includes scholarships, internships, guest lectures and a banker development program.”
Currently, Lee Business School utilizes 55 different classrooms in nine separate buildings throughout the UNLV campus. The new building will add 14 classrooms and two specialized learning labs that support the programs and disciplines the business school offers. Two dedicated Executive Master of Business Administration/graduate classrooms round out the additional space for a total planned 108,000 square feet.
“The gift from Nevada State Bank to Lee Business School makes it possible for us to move forward in the process of having our new academic building built,” shared Paulette Tandy, interim Dean for Lee Business School. “Nevada State Bank has set a precedent through its generosity to the business school. Because of their support, others will follow and help us make this a reality for our students.”
A variety of flexible learning spaces will help students and faculty embrace new business teaching trends, while designated labs will serve several disciplines, including entrepreneurship, sales and finance.
“Several years ago, then-Dean Brent Hathaway and I got together to explore a vision for a new academic building that would enhance the business programs and ensure students have an environment that supports and delivers real-world business experiences,” Shirey recalled. “Nevada State Bank is proud to be one of the initial donors to this important project.”
“Our students deserve a building that was thoughtfully created to provide a place where technology and space come together to promote an active learning environment, and a space that is flexible enough to adapt to future student needs,” added Tandy. “The vision of the new building will make the Lee Business School a gateway onto campus from Maryland Parkway.”
