U.S. Bank Invests $50,000 in Junior Achievement of Southern Nevada
Funding will fund truck purchase and bring financial education to 5,000 area students
Las Vegas, Nevada – U.S. Bank awarded Junior Achievement of Southern Nevada, Inc. a $50,000 Community Possible grant to purchase a truck that will enable 5,000 more Nevada students to receive free financial education programming. The grant is part of U.S. Bank’s new annual $1 million fund focused on organizations driving economic development across the country in the areas of workforce preparation, affordable housing and arts and culture.
“This new truck will help address the challenge of getting students, often those from outlying communities, to the Junior Achievement Finance Park,” said Michelle Jackson, President of Junior Achievement of Southern Nevada. “U.S. Bank has been a great supporter of Junior Achievement over the years – with financial and volunteer support. This is a neat, and tangible way they’re continuing to make their mark.”
Junior Achievement will use the funds to buy and equip a 26-foot truck so that JA can take its programming on the road. The truck will be purchased and outfitted this summer and begin serving students in the fall. It’s expected to reach another 5,000 students annually, most of whom are outside of the Las Vegas metro area. During the 2018-19 school year, Junior Achievement of Southern Nevada served about 20,000 kids.
“Establishing this new Fund allows us to further focus our efforts on supporting those organizations like Junior Achievement of Southern Nevada, which are working to close historical economic gaps in the areas of greatest need,” said Clark Wood, Las Vegas Market President for U.S. Bank. “Our communities are stronger when people have jobs, stable housing and when their communities are connected through the arts, recreation and play. Our goal is to give larger grants to create meaningful local impact working with and through market leaders and nonprofit organizations who know their communities the best.”
Including this donation, U.S. Bank has donated $229,000 to Junior Achievement of Southern Nevada since 2014. Through the new annual Market Impact Fund, U.S. Bank invests $1 million with $50,000 grants to 20 nonprofit organizations across the country. The new Fund is in addition to U.S. Bank’s Community Possible giving platform focused on grant cycles in the areas of Work, Home and Play.
