Thirty community leaders came together throughout the month of October to raise more than $170,000 to help save lives from breast cancer.
This distinguished group of community leaders raises awareness and money to support the American Cancer Society’s breast cancer initiatives and to help save more lives than ever before. Men from around Las Vegas joined in the fight and put the power of pink into action. The men committed to raising a minimum of $2,500 and to share the mission of the American Cancer Society throughout the months of September and October. Many went above and beyond to compete for 5 coveted awards: Pinkest Man, Pinkest Advocate, Pinkest Office, Rookie of the Year, and Top Fundraiser.
Awards were given out at the annual Pink Party hosted in Red Rock Casino Resort’s Crimson Lounge on November 14th. The 2019 winner of the Pinkest Man was Jon Bilstein, Executive Director of Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada. 2019’s Pinkest Advocate went to John Katsilometes, man-about-town for the Review Journal. The Pinkest Office was awarded to Glen Simpson of Community Ambulance. Nathan Schweigart, President of NDL Group Inc., won the Rookie of the Year honor, raising over $8,000 in his first year in the campaign. Top Fundraising honors went to Scott Nelson, GM/VP of Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa for raising a campaign record of $33,602.
Since 2016, nearly $500,000 has been raised through the Las Vegas campaign. Participants and donors can be proud that we’ve seen a 39% drop in breast cancer death rates since 1989, but we still have much more to do. Excluding cancers of the skin, breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women and is the second-leading cause of cancer death in women. According to the American Cancer Society Cancer Facts & Figures 2019, more than 268,000 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 41,760 will die from the disease this year.
