Veterans and military spouses looking for new opportunities are encouraged to attend the Veterans Resource Fair from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7 at Aliante Library, 2400 Deer Springs Way, in North Las Vegas.
The event is a joint venture between Workforce Connections’ One-Stop Career Centers and the Armed Forces Chamber, in partnership with Nevada JobConnect and the City of North Las Vegas to recognize the opening of a One-Stop Career Center inside Aliante Library. The goal is to help combat common issues veterans and military spouses face when seeking employment.
“Many times, veterans have trouble translating their military skills into civilian skills on resumes or during interviews,” said Andre’ Haynes, Founder and CEO of the Vegas based Armed Forces Chamber. “This event tackles both of those problems, while providing veterans and military families a one-stop event to access valuable community resources.”
The Veterans Resource Fair will include a mock-interview session from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. with employers, so attendees can practice their interview skills and receive valuable real-world feedback.
“Our Mayor and Council has always made it a priority to provide residents, especially our veterans, with the tools they need to get back into the workforce,” said Forrest Lewis, director of the North Las Vegas Library District. “Our veterans have sacrificed so much for our country and we want them to know we’re here to help them thrive in the community.”
Employers will also be conducting on-site interviews, and the event will feature several volunteer guest speakers.
Veterans are encouraged to bring identification, such as a Military Identification Card, VA Identification Card or DD-214 Form.
Refreshments will be available while supplies last thanks to Creative Soul Food Kitchen, CurlyTop Baker, EverybodyTreatz and Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory inside Fremont Hotel & Casino.
The One-Stop Career Center inside the Aliante Library offers no cost employment and training assistance to the public. It is open from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the third Saturday of every month.
