Faith Lutheran Middle School & High School is expanding its curriculum to offer two new electronic music courses. The courses, Electronic Music Production and Entrepreneurs in Music, are uniquely designed to prepare students for a multitude of careers in the music industry. The courses were developed by The Digital Music Academy and by industry level executives to give students a head-start in the field before graduating.
The Electronic Music Production course will teach students how to use electronic music software like Ableton and Pro Tools to create beats and practice as electronic musicians like professionals in the field.
The business course, Entrepreneurs in Music, the first of its kind in Las Vegas, will expose students to the financial, legal, management and distribution side of the business. They’ll learn to create contracts, create marketing campaigns and learn to understand the verbiage associated with legal contracts to protect the interests of future artists they may manage.
“These classes are a great example of the specialized learning environment we’re trying to create for our students,” said Dr. Steve Buuck. CEO of Faith Lutheran Middle School & High School. “The demand for electronic music is growing and we want students to be prepared for potential careers in this emerging industry.
The classes are available to all students grades 9-12. Students are working in a classroom that was recently redesigned to capture the essence of a studio setting. State-of-the art studio headphones valued at about $300 are available to each student through an $8,000 donation made possible by locally based DMI and from Focal, an international manufacturer of high-fidelity loudspeakers, audio systems and headphones, based in France.
“All of the students will be able to listen to the music in the same way,” said Ronnie Lee, Studio DMI CEO and President and veteran music executive who worked with the school to implement the curriculum.
“Having the support of an international company like Focal shows the level of commitment we have to this program. I want to praise Faith Lutheran for adding these classes to their curriculum and want to especially thank Focal for their donation.”
Las Vegas is considered the ‘big stage’ for electronic music production and those looking to go into the field, Lee said. After taking the classes, students will be prepared to pursue careers as studio engineers and producers, marketing specialists, lawyers, managers and more.
