The Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development’s (GOED) Nevada Film Office is collecting toys to benefit the Cure 4 The Kids Foundation to help raise the spirits of Nevada children battling cancer and other catastrophic illnesses.
“Anything we can do to bring some joy to sick children while they continue to fight their illnesses we will do,” said Eric Preiss, director of GOED’s Nevada Film Office. “We hope that playing with a toy or doing a craft will help the children in some small way and bring them joy.”
New, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at the Nevada Film Office located at 6655 W. Sahara Ave. Suite C106. Toys with non-porous surfaces so they can be cleaned are preferred such as Lego sets, Fisher-Price infant/toddler/pre-school play sets and figurines. Also needed are art sets, slime kits and gift cards for the older kids. The Film Office is collecting toys until Aug. 30.
“There is no greater calling than to help children who are battling cancer and pediatric diseases,” said GOED Interim Executive Director Kristopher Sanchez. “I would encourage people in our community to donate a toy or a gift card so we can bring some happiness to these brave kids.”
The Film Office has put the word out about its FILManthropy to the Nevada film production community but is hoping that everyone will donate toys to benefit the kids being helped through the Cure 4 The Kids Foundation. The foundation was started in 2007 to address the special health care needs of children in Nevada and to make sure that those who are unable to pay get the treatment they need.
In other donation drives, the Film Office collected more than 1,000 pounds of food for Three Square, participated in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Las Vegas walk, collected donations for Noah’s Animal House and supported Project 150’s effort to get backpacks full of school supplies to homeless teens.
