Coalition Forms to Match Employees to Available Jobs
Over 40 public and private entities have joined to form the Career and Technical Education Messaging Coalition of Northern Nevada (CTE-MCNN). The coalition members represent diverse fields and expertise in Nevada. The coalition’s goal is to match potential employees with job and certificate opportunities. The coalition has launched NewNevadaJobs.com to help achieve that end.
Predictable Pricing Program for College Tuition Approved
The Nevada Board of Regents has approved a predictable pricing program that will allow students in public higher education to budget for tuition expenses. The program will base future registration fees and non-resident tuition for undergraduate and graduate students on the Higher Education Price Index and will apply to all of the Nevada System of Higher Education’s seven degree-granting institutions.
Barrick and Newmont Forge Nevada Joint Venture Agreement
Barrick Gold Corporation and Newmont Mining Corporation have signed a joint venture agreement to combine their respective mining operations, assets, reserves and talent in Nevada. The joint venture will allow them to capture an estimated $500 million in average annual pre-tax synergies in the first five full years of the combination and a projected $5 billion pre-tax net present value over 20 years. Ownership of the new partnership is 61.5 percent Barrick and 38.5 percent Newmont.
UNLV Schools Expand and Achieve High Rankings
Thirteen University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) programs, including eight from the William S. Boyd School of Law ranked the top 100 in the U.S. News and World Report’s annual collection of top graduate and professional schools. In addition, the UNLV School of Nursing has earned a $900,000 grant from the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) and will expand to offer advanced training opportunities and continuing education for nurses.
