Ruth Furman, principal of ImageWords Communications, is a 2019 Women of Distinction Award finalist for the annual Women of Distinction Awards.
The awards will be distributed from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 7 at a luncheon sponsored by Southern Nevada’s National Association of Women Business Owners in the Conference Center of Las Vegas, 6590 Bermuda Road.
NAWBO Southern Nevada has hosted the Women of Distinction Awards since 1998 to celebrate the accomplishments of women whose excellence and dedication sets them apart in their fields and inspires success.
Women are recognized in the following categories: Rising Star, Glass Ceiling, Entrepreneur of the Year, arts/entertainment/media, business/retail/manufacturing, corporate/government services, education/sports, gaming/hospitality/convention services, medical/healthcare services, philanthropy/community service, professional services/public relations, real estate/construction, and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).
“My passion for my work stems partly from my desire to see women succeed in business, and have their impact in our community gain the recognition it deserves,” said Furman, a finalist in the arts, entertainment and media category.
Furman said her appreciation of good stories, acquired during her work as a journalist, prompted her to start her own public relations firm in 2001.
“I wanted to help people and businesses share their own stories, grow their brands and reach their goals,” Furman said.
Besides running ImageWords, which offers a full spectrum of public relations, communications and marketing services, including writing and editing, social media advising and media relations, Furman works to mentor younger women in business. She said it brings her joy to hear stories of those who have had the courage to ask for a raise, pursue new business opportunities and have their achievements highlighted.
“One of the best parts of my job is getting to spotlight amazing women and see them reach their potential. I’ve overcome a lot of obstacles both personally and professionally to reach this point in my career and I’m grateful to have a platform to help others do the same.”
