Southern Nevada Public Television (SNPT) was originally founded in 1971 by Charlotte Hill as Friends of Channel 10. Its mission is to provide financial, promotional, governmental and volunteer support for Vegas PBS.
Friends of Channel 10 recruited volunteers for pledge drives, conducted special fund-raising events, provided information to policy makers, applied for grants, assisted with business operations of online adult education and managed endowment funds for public television.
In 1999, Friends of Channel 10 restructured the board to assist KLVX-TV / Vegas PBS with the federally mandated conversion to digital television. The board was renamed Southern Nevada Public Television and restructured to include several councils with up to twenty members each. Today, Bill Curran, Senior Council at Ballard Spahr, LLP., serves as President of the board and Tom Axtell, General Manager of Vegas PBS, serves as Executive Director.
