The Professional Fire Fighters of Nevada (PFFN) was awarded first place in the 2018 International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Media Awards for its 1 October press conference in the public relations category. More than 300 entries were submitted in a variety of categories.
“The morning after that tragic night, our leadership came together to discuss how we could address our members mental and behavioral health issues and how best to share the acts of heroism our members conducted as the chaos unfolded,” said Angelo Aragon, president of Professional Fire Fighters of Nevada. “Las Vegas Fire Fighter Ben Kole, Henderson Fire Fighter Anthony Robone, and Clark County Fire Fighter Jesse Gomez were able to share their first accounts of that night’s events and their actions to help the hundreds in need. Their efforts did not go unnoticed and they are truly heroes among us.”
Reporters from local Las Vegas media outlets, numerous regional broadcast affiliates from San Diego, Calif. to Philadelphia, Penn. and national outlets including CNN, 20/20, ABC World News, CBS Nightly News, Associated Press, NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt attended and produced pieces covering the press conference and independent stories. Additional media focused on the personal accounts of Las Vegas Fire Fighter Ben Kole, Henderson Fire Fighter Anthony Robone, and Clark County Fire Fighter Jesse Gomez, which generated additional media coverage as a direct result from the press conference.
