LAS VEGAS – Goodwill of Southern Nevada (Goodwill) opened its third Career Center. The new center is located inside the Goodwill thrift store at 741 South Rainbow Dr. in Las Vegas and is the new home of Goodwill’s Veteran Integration Program. The new Career Center is supported by a $1.4 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration. The grant was awarded to Goodwill on October 1, 2018 specifically to serve transitioning military members and their families.
“We are proud to be a part of creating new opportunities for veterans seeking civilian employment in Southern Nevada,” said John Helderman, interim CEO for Goodwill of Southern Nevada. “In 2018 alone, Goodwill has helped nearly 1,400 veterans or their family members with employment services in the Las Vegas area.”
The Goodwill Veteran Integration Program helps equip veterans and military families with tools specifically designed to help them transition from military service to civilian employment, including dress etiquette, skills training, resume writing, interview preparation, job placement, and supportive services, such as assistance with clothing or transportation. The program also offers on-the-job training and, in some cases, will pay for occupational skills training. All Goodwill team members operating the new Career Center are veterans themselves, thus they are uniquely qualified to understand the challenges veterans face when transitioning out of the military. By providing veteran career coaches to assist with intensive case management, Goodwill works to help unemployed and underemployed veterans and their families overcome barriers to civilian employment in Southern Nevada.
“The Veteran Integration Program provides job seeking veterans and their families more than job training, it provides a full set of tools they need to support themselves,” said Helderman. “We are actively developing partnerships with local employers, which will enable Goodwill to connect a skilled veteran workforce with in-demand jobs.”
