The September Farmers Market and Urban Seed Foundation Will Initiate Partnership Hosting Somerset Academy of Las Vegas With a Pop-Up Farmers Market Booth
Las Vegas – Picturesque Tivoli Village is partnering with Urban Seed Foundation to reprise its weekly Farmers and Makers Market beginning Saturday, Sept. 1, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The USF pop-up Farmers Market booth will feature basil, watermelon, eggplant, and other produce available for purchase, grown by Somerset Academy’s Garden Program. The Farmer’s Market will continue to partner with local schools across the valley throughout the year. All proceeds and donations accumulated from the student’s gardens will benefit the Ur-ban Seed Foundation garden programs.
Somerset Academy’s Garden Project, spearheaded by Jennie Sauter, and funded by Urban Seed Foundation was completed in Aug. 2017 and includes 18 garden beds, 7 fruit trees and a grape and berry trellis.
Tivoli will be partnering with over 50 different schools throughout Las Vegas over the course of the year and are looking into an on-site grow area in the future. It would be the first of its kind for a farmer’s market in Las Vegas ever.
Urban Seed proudly serves over 3500 students in Clark County, and Tivoli Village is excited to become a partner in their efforts. The garden currently produces over 2,300 servings of produce a year that get directly distributed to into the community via farmer’s markets, school demonstrations and community events.
The weekly event is free and open to the public. It will feature fresh local produce, handcraft-ed goods, specialty items and live music.

The pillars of our work are food access, nutri-tion education and advocating for effective food security policy. - FRESH FOOD ACCESS
Urban Seed Foundation is working to ensure that everyone has access to affordable, nutri-tious food and information to make healthy food related decisions. In partnership with like-minded local organizations we create solutions which include funding school gardens, com-munity gardens, gardens for educating youth with special needs, the distribution of locally grown produce into at-risk and special needs communities. - NUTRITION EDUCATION + RESEARCH
Student and individual benefits include education and experience in seeding, maintaining, growing, harvesting and preparing produce for consumption and for sale; elevating personal health and nutrition; personal empowerment and responsibility. Curricula relating to our gar-den programs is designed to inspire and cultivate the next generation of the agricultural in-dustry; and to promote increased public health and well-being today. USF’s community based participatory research projects are designed to elevate community engagement and apply a service-learning hands-on approach. - FOOD SECURITY POLICY
Annmarie Feiler | Urban Seed Foundation sits on the Governor’s Council on Food Security for the State of Nevada. The Council was created to implement the goals of Food Security in Nevada: Nevada’s Plan for Action and effectively improve the quality of life and health of Ne-vadans by increasing food security throughout the State. To address this issue, a steering committee comprised of representatives from several State departments and the food safety network was convened to develop a strategic plan with goals and objectives intended to in-crease food security in Nevada.
