Reno – Chrisie Yabu, Senior Director of National PR at KPS3 Marketing has successfully completed the Examination for Accreditation in Public Relations. The announcement was made by the Universal Accreditation Board, a consortium of nine professional communication organizations that directs the competency certification program.
The Accreditation program aims to improve the practice of public relations by assessing the competence in 60 areas of knowledge, skills and abilities associated with the profession. The Examination is designed for public relations professionals with at least five to seven years of job experience and/or a bachelor’s degree in a communication field. Candidates who successfully complete the rigorous process, including presenting his/her portfolio to a Panel Presentation of three peers and sitting for a computer-based Examination, are granted the APR.
Yabu has been a PR practitioner for seven years, working at KPS3 since 2014. Yabu graduated magna cum laude from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Arts from the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism and has more than 22 years of experience in marketing and communications. Her career in public relations has spanned travel/hospitality, real estate and nonprofit industries.
“By accomplishing her APR, Chrisie joins an elite group— only 20 percent of PRSA practitioners in the country have achieved this recognition,” said Alison Gaulden, APR, of the Sierra Nevada PRSA chapter board of directors. “Pursuing the APR demonstrates a dedication to personal growth, superb professionalism and addressing the myths in the industry that PR just means press release. The PRSA Sierra Nevada chapter is very proud of Chrisie’s accomplishment.”
The computer-based portion of the Examination is administered throughout the year at more than 300 Prometric Testing Centers. The Panel Presentation is conducted prior to the computer-based portion of the Examination by a panel of three Accredited members of one or more of the nine organizations participating in the UAB. Professionals earning the APR must maintain their credential through continuing professional development, providing leadership to the profession and serving their local communities.
