LAS VEGAS – SilverSummit Healthplan is celebrating one year of impactful outreach efforts and commitment to health and wellness in Nevada communities. Since July 2017, SilverSummit Healthplan has been providing quality healthcare options to Nevadans throughout the entire state, including through the exchange in 14 previously bare counties.
“SilverSummit works closely with providers and patients to bring timely, personal care to our members, and we continually impact our local communities through charitable outreach endeavors,” said SilverSummit Healthplan President & CEO Garrett Leaf. “Our mission is to improve the health of our members through focused, compassionate, and coordinated care, and we add to that by supporting organizations that truly help residents.
SilverSummit Healthplan spearheaded a “No One Eats Alone” effort with Clark County School District that promotes student inclusion among middle school students by providing them the tools they need to fight social isolation. SilverSummit Healthplan partnered with the school district and national nonprofit Beyond Differences to encourage students to make a difference in their own middle schools, and discourage bullying by encouraging inclusion. In No One Eats Alone, Students are given conversation ‘ice breakers’ at lunch and make pledges to conduct good deeds/behaviors of their choice.
SilverSummit Healthplan also partnered with the Vegas Golden Knights to fight hunger by sponsoring and organizing a food drive. The partnership highlighted the shared commitment between SilverSummit Healthplan and the Vegas Golden Knights to improve the community of Las Vegas, and collected 1,896 meals for hungry families in the city. The collaboration with the Vegas Golden Knights is an ongoing partnership that has also included Reading Week events, where the Golden Knights visited local schools in CCSD.
In Reno, Nevada, SilverSummit Healthplan partnered with Envolve to provide free vision screenings to children and families. All attendees received a free vision screening, which if needed could lead to full eye exams and prescription glasses at no charge. Adults also received free reading glasses if needed. This two-day event also featured Care Chest, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Immunize Nevada, and Community Health Alliance—all on hand to provide information about their organizations and what they could do to help Nevadans.
“These events, and many more, complement the mission of SilverSummit Healthplan to improve the health of our members in the state of Nevada,” Leaf said. “SilverSummit does this one person at a time and is proud to be a part of Nevadans’ lives,” said Leaf.
