Local groups to volunteer for various community service projects throughout the week plus a night dedicated to dining for a cause
Reno – On Monday, June 18, United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra (UWNNS) kicked off its Week of Action at the Donald L. Carano Youth & Teen Facility site. UWNNS and U.S. Navy sailor volunteers will talk to kids about the importance of learning to read, school success and having a bright future after high school. Volunteers demonstrated robotics used in bomb defusing to give kids a glimpse of into just one of the exciting careers a good education can afford them.
In the past, UWNNS has held an annual Day of Action, and has evolved it into a week-long commitment for 2018. Day of Action is a national day of volunteerism mobilizing hundreds of local volunteers to complete community service projects throughout the country. It is anticipated that tens of thousands of individuals will volunteer their time around the world in support of better communities during this week.
There are various events to follow the kickoff, each made possible by UWNNS partners including Scheels, Nevada Athletics, Wells Fargo and U.S. Navy sailors. Week of Action volunteers provide an influential voice to local kids, reminding them their paths to lifelong success starts early.
The week culminates on Thursday, June 21 with “Dine United.” Two Chicks and GourMelt will donate 10% and Chili’s will donate 15% of food purchases when patrons mention United Way.
