Carson City – Gary Longaker, executive director of the Nevada Rural Housing Authority (NRHA), has been elected to the board of directors for the National Association of Local Housing Finance Agencies (NALHFA). Longaker served his first term on the NALHFA board from 1996 to 2000. His latest term on the board began on May 10.
NALHFA is the national association of professionals working to finance affordable housing in the broader community development context at the local level. The association’s board of directors develop affordable housing policy for implementation at the local and national levels based on committee recommendations and concerns of the general membership.
“Nevada is lucky to have Gary serving on the board as he will not only influence the national housing conversation but also elevate Nevada as a leader in affordable housing programs and resources,” said Ron Williams, NALHFA past president and executive director of the
Southeast Texas Housing Financing Corporation. “His 42 years in the affordable housing industry, depth of knowledge and strategic thinking will undoubtedly propel the NALHFA forward as it works to overcome challenges to help families realize their housing dreams.”
Longaker has been helping families find affordable and more permanent housing using his expertise about local, state and federal housing programs and developing state and local housing policies. During his tenure, NRHA has received several prestigious awards, including the HUD Public Housing Agency High Performer of the Year two times, for its innovative thinking and effective execution of single family and multifamily programs.
“The NALHFA is fortunate to have Gary serve on our board,” said Rich Froehlich, NALHFA president. “His extensive experience, knowledge and passion for helping families find affordable housing will be an invaluable asset to our board.”
