RENO – The Regional Emergency Medical Services Authority (REMSA) will host a free bleeding control class, Stop the Bleed, at Kindred at Home on Saturday, May 5 from 1-4 p.m. Open to the community, the Bleeding Control for the Injured (B-Con) course educates community members on how to perform immediate and basic lifesaving interventions prior to receiving definitive medical care.
“Bleeding control is just as important for the general public to understand as it is emergency medical services teams,” said Cindy Green, REMSA Education manager. “Life-threatening circumstances involving shootings or explosives, for example, mean victims can die in a matter of minutes without bleeding control assistance. This course, just like a CPR class, can help us all be a little more prepared.”
After attending the class, community members will have learned how to manage life-threatening blood loss through the use of tourniquet application, wound packing and hemostatic dressings.
This free course will be held on Saturday, May 5 from 1-4 p.m. at Kindred Home’s Reno office, located at 5425 Louie Lane, Suite B, Reno, NV 89511.
This class is open to all participants; space is limited and registration is first-come, first served at www.remsahealth.com/education
REMSA uses a curriculum intended to build national resilience by preparing the public to save lives by raising awareness about how to stop bleeding following everyday emergencies, and man-made and natural disasters. For more information or questions, contact REMSA at (775) 353-0772.
